The Flying Horse of Gansu, also known as the Bronze Running Horse or the Galloping Horse Treading on a Flying Swallow, is a Chinese bronze sculpture from circa the 2nd century CE. Discovered in 1969 near the city of Wuwei, in the province of Gansu, it is now in the Gansu Provincial Museum.
VERY RARE. The heavy bronze figurine (10 x 13) is entitled "The flying Horse of Gansu" and also was excavated in China. This replica was purchased at the Joslyn Museum in the 1990's when the event was celebrated. The figurine is an example of ancient artistic talent; as it stands balanced on one hoof and the other 3 legs are free in the air.
The horse stands 2 inches high and measures 3 3/8 inches end-to-end. The wooden stand is 4 inches long, 1 1/2 inches wide at its widest point and stands 3/4 of an inch high. Please see all of the pictures as they are an integral part of the description of this listing.
